Last time 30 keen volunteers planted 1200 trees so lets smash that this Sunday starting 3pm for tree planters.
Same time same place for access and afternoon refreshments by the creek….see directions below.
These tree plantings are a bit different to our big block plantings as we are aiming to link up the surrounding creek corridors in our lower catchment from the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area to our site at Figtree Lagoons, the Mulgrave River, and the Reef.
This means we will be walking and planting along the creek lines while encountering different environments along the way. There may be one line of trees for a while then 3 or 4 so with a lot of volunteers we maybe moving quickly in parts.
The most exciting part of this planting is that we will be finishing at Figtree Creek for a paddle and refreshments in a lovely part of the creek so bring a towel.
Directions going south: Go through Fishery Falls. You will pass McDonnell Creek State School on the right, then slow down because you will be taking a right before the Figtree Creek bridge. There will be signs before and on the turn off, but make sure you indicate early to warn cars behind that you are slowing down and taking a left onto GRAVEL. Be careful going over the RAIL & LOCO lines then follow the signs.
There will be more updates next week but we will need LOTS of VOLUNTEERS to get these trees in the ground before the end of December so bring along family and friends.
This project is a partnership between Mulgrave Landcare and Greening Australia, supported by the Australian Government Reef Trust and the Accor Hotel Group. It is part of Greening Australia’s Reef Aid program to improve water quality on the Great Barrier Reef, and, Mulgrave Landcare’s core business of connecting biodiversity corridors throughout the Mulgrave Catchment.
